Diane Carnright

...oils.

As a child, Diane Carnright discovered she would rather draw and paint than play games. Her high school art teacher encouraged Diane's natural gift for color and composition and provided a lifelong credo: "Don't copy; make your own!"

Today her preferred medium is oil paint, and her rich, original and prolific paintings attest to her skill. "I lost count of the number of them in 1989," says the self-taught artist, "but I paint 25 to 30 canvases each year." An Ajo resident since 1972, Diane finds inspiration in Southwest architecture, desert light, and the natural landscapes and rock formations around her home. She sells her oils at art shows throughout Arizona.

Her advice to budding artists? "Don't be afraid to wipe it clean and start over. It's in your head."
