Tracy Taft, fused glass

"All my life I have been enchanted by glass, especially by light through glass.  Finally in the late 1970s I learned to design and build with stained glass at the Augusta Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts School in Elkins, West Virginia.  I worked in stained glass off and on for the next 20 years-until I discovered fused glass.  Every fusing is a surprise.

I am mostly working small right now-earrings, pins, pendants, tiles.  I use Moretti Effetre and reversed dichoric glass to create an elusive eye-like depth.  And I use old opaque lamp glass to create a nearly opposite effect, a rich and subtle appearance similar to stone or bone.  Both glasses are fascinating and the options for experimentation are countless . . .

Mostly I sell my work at local festivals and out of my studio on the edge of the desert in Ajo-under the business name "Hot Glass by Tracy Taft."
